WHO WE ARE
Meet theTeam
Barge No. 9 is a community-driven project powered entirely by the passion & dedication of our volunteers. With over 40 amazing volunteers—from chief tea makers to skilled marine engineers—our community has come together to bring the barge to life. Our founder & board of directors are volunteers, committed to making this vision a reality. There are plenty of ways for you to get involved & help us continue this wonderful journey together. The barge itself is owned privately by William Gilroy.

CIC STATUS
The Barge Preservation Community Project
We operate as a Community Interest Company (CIC), a type of business entity established to benefit the community rather than generate profits for private shareholders. A CIC prioritises social good and is regulated to ensure that its activities serve the community’s interests. By operating under CIC status, the Barge Preservation Community Project can secure funding, attract volunteers, and reinvest profits into community-driven initiatives, ensuring that the restoration of Barge No. 9 and associated wellbeing programs directly contribute to enhancing the local community's quality of life.
For full transparency Barge No. 9 CIC is currently the labour force restoring Barge No 9, which is privately owned by William Gilroy. Once it is transformed into a restaurant a % of the profits will fund our community projects at Anchor Point House, under the umbrella of Barge No 9 CIC.
